KIDS GROWING FOOD

In this program kids learn about growing food to feed themselves and their families.

We begin by learning how to plant and care for tomatoes in a garden by cutting open raw tomatoes using the seeds inside we plant them into cups for later transplanting. IWC and SASEF are teaching children how to use everyday food to plant and grow a garden.

Millennium development goal 7 Ensure Environmental Sustainability

Every child needs a teacher…
Because everyday over 100 million children wake up without the hope that education offers. And this is because there are simply not enough teachers to ensure every child can get a quality education.

SASEF has joined in the fight against global poverty. We are working to introduce the Millennium Development Goals to as many young people as we can. This is our contribution to the war against poverty. If you how know many of the MDG’s we have used in the newsletter contact us at jewel@sasef.org

" Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty."
(F. Joseph Wresinski).

Global Youth Service Day
April 21 – 23, 2006

SASEF celebrates GYSD 2006 on two continents! In Brazil and Germany we are introducing the Millennium Development Goals, bring youth together for the experience of learning “how to” make a difference in their communities.

In Brazil youth are conducting two day workshops to educate their peers and the community about HIV/AIDS, Basic Nutrition, Hygiene and Water Safety. Students from “Escola Alberto” organized a sports competition for street children in the hope of engaging children and getting them to return to school. MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOAL 2
ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION

Students worked together presenting International Day for fellow students, teachers and parents at the Pan American School in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Food, posters and performances reflect the diversity of a global range of study but most impressive were presentations by grades 5 though 11. Students performed mock trials depicting the work of Amnesty International, the challenges faced by Red Cross workers in Rwanda, CARE International working in Brazil, WWF for nature and in depth reporting from World Vision. An in depth question and answer session followed each presentation.

DEVELOP A GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP FOR

SASEF and the ONE Campaign
In 2005 SASEF signed the ONE Declaration to make poverty history in our generation. ONE is an effort by Americans to rally Americans - ONE by ONE - to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The ONE Campaign is engaging Americans through a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizers to show the steps people can take, ONE by ONE, to fight global AIDS and poverty. To date Countries all over the world have joined in the movement creating synergies and rallying support to end global poverty.
